How to plan a trip to Rocky Point

  1. Step 1

Contact your local travel agency and find out what documents you need to cross the Mexican border. Start applying for the documents months ahead of time. Passports are the best way to prove U.S. residency, but it can take several weeks to receive them. Under 16, can avoid the use of the passport with only having the birth certificate.

  1. Step 2

Decide if you want to drive or fly to Rocky Point. The city is 170 miles south of Tucson so it is not a long or difficult drive if you don't mind taking your car over the Mexican border. if you decide to fly you can book a charter flight or you can fly your own small plane and land at the nearby airstrip.

  2. Step 3

Book a hotel or condo ( we recommend www.rockypointreservations.com) with enough time.

  3. Step 4

Check my website www.ourrockypointrealtor.com to check if there is any events coming on the dates you will be here.

  4. Step 5

Reserve your activities before arriving if you are visiting during high season. You don't want to be left in the parking lot with all the Jet Skis and fishing tours sold out.

  5. Step 6

Pack adapters for some electronics. Although wattage may be the same, adapters are needed for plugs that have an enlarged end on one prong or plugs with three prongs.

  6. Step 7

Cross the border with plenty of time and gas. Depending on the season or holiday it may take hours to cross the border.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy Mexican insurance for your car before crossing the border. Most insurance policies do not cover your car while in Mexico.
  • Rental companies do not usually allow drivers to take cars over the border.
  • Most of the drinking water in Rocky Point proper will be fine, but when going out of the city remember your bottled water. Beware of the water if you are not from the zone!
  • Be conscientious about following the laws and rules while visiting. Mexican jails have a tough reputation for a reason.
  • Do not take part in any activity that can be construed as political or against the government or police. It is against Mexican law for foreigners to interfere or participate in these types of activities.
And Remember that if you love Rocky Point, why don't you have a piece of it?
